Homeopathy

There is more to Macko's story - the homeopathy aspect. Not just homeopathy, however, it's a total holistic approach to veterinary care.

When Macko started throwing up after his second surgery, the only thing we could get him to eat was beef. The oncologist wanted him to eat a lower protein diet, and tried to discourage us away from the beef. She wanted him to eat a specially formulated dog food that was supposed to be easier on the kidneys. He refused to eat this food, he would only eat beef - which we gave him copious amounts of when he wanted. We figured that there had to be something to this, that he was trying to tell us something. So, we did some research.

During our research, we found out about something called the B.A.R.F. diet - Bones And Raw Food. We had already started in that direction, unknowingly. We listened to Macko when he was telling us he only wanted beef. Gradually, we moved away from cooking it, to giving it to him raw. When we found the Homeopathic vet, and told her about his food change she said that it was a good move. She encouraged us to keep feeding raw meat to him, and not only that, she discouraged us from giving him anything with by-products and preservatives, which commercial dog foods are full of .

We saw Macko start to regain the weight that he had lost after his second surgery due to his new diet, which he absolutely loved! In addition to the new, improved diet, his Homeopathic vet added several Homeopathic remedies, and neutraceutical supplements to help his body fight the cancer. Among these supplements were: Anti-oxidants A, C, and E; Omega-3 fatty acids (fish oils); CoQ10; Brewer's Yeast; Turmeric; Digestive Enzymes; Quercetin; Bioflavonoids; and Garlic.

Macko has been getting these remedies and supplements since December. It is now July and he looks great, and by his activity level I would venture to say he feels really good too! He has had no tumor recurrences since his last surgery. Macko loves taking long walks, and regularly tries to get us to take him on several mile hikes - from time to time, if the weather is right, he succeeds. On average, he gets 2-3 walks a day, each varying from 1- 2 miles each.

We firmly believe that Macko regained his health due to the holistic approach, the homeopathy and the Reiki (and of course two very dedicated parents).
